Detox Diets

A detox diet may appear to be just a fad, but the results are a reality. A detoxification system can be an effective weight loss program as well as a cleansing tool, if done properly.

Why is it necessary to go on a detox diet?

Our body's encounter pollutants and toxins that need to be removed from our bloodstream. Not only do we inhale these toxins from the air, but we can also absorb them from the water, and the food that we consume. Then we have the pesticides on our fruits and vegetables, and the cleaners we use around the house all contribute to a build up of hard to remove toxins from the body. Even the plastics we use to hold everything leave a residue of toxins that the body must get rid of to work optimally.

So what happens when all this "bad stuff" comes into our bodies?

Essentially, this means that our immune system works overtime fighting to keep our body healthy. Some of the symptoms show up in unexpected ways. Some people will experience unexplained weight gain, or headaches ranging from mild to debilitating. Some people complain of random body pains. The most common symptom is an overall lethargy, and the inability to concentrate or think clearly for an extended period of time, a "brain fog".

So what exactly is a detox diet?

Essentially, a detox diet is a simple tool that helps your own body in cleaning and maintenance its own optimal health. This tool is tough on the system, so it is recommended to be used sparingly. As a tool, it should be used only at once or twice a year at most.

Regulating The Body

A detoxification regiment gives your body essential nutrients, and the space within the body to move your internal system back to optimal. During the diet, you are asked to refrain from any type of processed foods. This includes such things as snacks or fast food. All of these foods contain chemical additives and large quantities of sugar, sodium, preservatives that directly contribute to poor health. According to diet, you should replace these foods with whole grains, fresh produce, and lean protein.

Supplement For The Immune System

The best of these diets will contain some sort of supplement for the immune system to help with the cleansing process. If the plan you are looking for does not contain any such supplements, then you should consider taking an antioxidant to help the body rid itself of toxins. This allows the body to rid itself of free radicals that could potentially wreak havoc on your body's systems.

Weight Loss Momentum

While everyone is different, most ends up losing a few pounds during the process, giving them the energy to more effectively lost more weight, thus allowing you to maintain the momentum of jumping into an exercise routine.
